Step 1 — Unpack Your Gear
Remove all items from the Traveler Backpack and lay them out on a flat surface before beginning assembly.

Step 2 — Set Up the Tripod
Open the Slik U8000 tripod and extend each leg using the flip locks. Adjust to your preferred working height — standing or seated — then lock each leg firmly in place.

Step 3 — Attach the Easel to the Tripod
On the back of the black easel, locate the quick release plate already screwed into the square block. Do not unscrew or remove this plate. At the top of the tripod, find the pan head. Pull down the black lever on the left side of the pan head, insert the quick release plate, then push the lever back up to lock the easel securely in place.

Step 4 — Install the Tripod Shelf
Slide the One-Hole Tripod Shelf onto the legs of the tripod. Position it at a comfortable height for easy access to your palette and supplies.

Step 5 — Set Up Your Palette and Water Cup
Open the Watercolor Folding Palette and place it on the tripod shelf. Insert the Collapsible Water Cup into the 3-inch hole on the shelf.

Step 6 — Load Up and Paint!
Add your canvas or paper to the easel, load your brushes into the retractable brush holder, and arrange your paints. You're ready to paint!

Optional — Table Easel Setup
To use the easel on a tabletop surface:

1. Remove the easel from the tripod.
2. Unscrew the quick release plate from the back of the easel and store it in the tripod pan head for safekeeping.
3. Detach the table leg from the magnetic catch on the back of the easel. (The table leg looks like a long screw with a black cap on the end.)
4. Screw the table leg into the block on the back of the easel.
5. Enjoy your tabletop easel!

Step 1 — Unpack Your Gear
Remove all items from the 60L Convertible Backpack and lay them out on a flat surface before beginning assembly.

Step 2 — Set Up the Tripod
Open the Slik U8000 tripod and extend each leg using the flip locks. Adjust to your preferred working height — standing or seated — then lock each leg firmly in place.

Step 3 — Raise the Center Column
Crank the center column up to your desired height. Turn the center locking collar to a snug position to hold the column in place.

Step 4 — Attach the Panel Holder to the Tripod
Locate the quick release plate already screwed onto the aluminum channel of the Panel Holder. Do not unscrew or remove this plate. At the top of the tripod, find the pan head. Pull down the grey lever on the left side of the pan head, insert the quick release plate, then push the lever back up to lock the Panel Holder securely in place.

Step 5 — Install the Palette on the Tripod
Slide the Oil & Acrylic Palette onto the legs of the tripod below the Panel Holder. Position it at a comfortable working height.

Step 6 — Set Up the Palette Cover and Slide-Out Shelf
Lift the tab at the back of the palette cover and slide it off. Flip the cover over and slide it back underneath the palette — this gives you an extra surface. Pull out the slide-out shelf approximately 6 inches and position it on your preferred side of the palette. Attach the 4 spring clamp to the tripod leg on the opposite side of the shelf for counterbalance.

Step 7 — Install the Turps Jar
Open the turps jar lid and place the jar into the 3-inch hole on the palette cover shelf.

Step 8 — Adjust the Panel Holder Brackets
Loosen the star knobs on the Panel Holder brackets and rotate them 90 degrees. Adjust the bracket height to fit your panel or canvas. Place your panel in the brackets and tighten the star knobs firmly to ensure a snug, secure fit.

Step 9 — Load Up and Paint!
Add your brushes, paints, and palette knife. You're ready to paint!

💡 Pro Tip: The slide-out shelf can be positioned on either side of the palette — great for left- or right-handed painters. Always place the spring clamp on the tripod leg opposite the shelf to keep your setup balanced and stable. We recommend emptying the Turps Jar every 4 days to prevent gasket swelling.

Unpack your gear.

1. Start with the tripod
2. Using the fliplocks extend the legs of the tripod to your desired height
3. Once extended lock the legs into place with the fliplocks
4. Crank the center column up to the desired height. Turn the center locking collar to a snug position to hold the column in place
5. Next, take the Panel Holder and look for the quick release plate that is already screwed onto the aluminum channel (don't unscrew or remove this plate)
6. Then, look at the top of the tripod and locate the pan head that this plate fits into
7. Pull down the grey lever on the left side of this pan head and insert the quick release plate
8. Push the lever back up into place to secure the easel to the tripod
9. Next, take the palette and slip it onto the legs of the tripod
10. Pull out both sliding shelves approximately 6".
11. Lift the cover from the palette and position it at the back of the palette against the center column of the tripod. Unhook the bungee cord from the slot on the right inside the cover. Wrap the cord over the left side of the lid and around the back of the tripod center column and reinsert the hook back into the slot on the top of the lid.
12. Attach the spring clamp to the tripod leg above the palette. Make sure the clamp is on the leg - opposite side of the shelf containing the turps jar.
13. Open the turps jar lid and position the jar in the 3" hole (Note: Shelf with turps jar hole can be switched to either side of the palette.)
14. Adjust the panel holder brackets 90 degrees by loosening the star knobs. Adjust the height of the brackets to fit your panel. Place your panel in the brackets and tighten the star knobs to ensure a snug fit.
15. Add your brushes and paints and ENJOY!

Step 1 — Unpack Your Gear
Remove all items from the 60L Convertible Backpack and lay them out on a flat surface before beginning assembly.

Step 2 — Set Up the Tripod
Open the Slik U8000 tripod and extend each leg using the flip locks. Adjust to your preferred working height — standing or seated — then lock each leg firmly in place.

Step 3 — Raise the Center Column

Step 4 — Install the Palette on the Tripod
Slide the Pastel Palette onto the legs of the tripod. Position it at a comfortable working height. Unhook the bungee cord from the shelves, then pull out both sliding shelves approximately 6 inches.

Step 5 — Set Up the Palette Cover as a Shade
Lift the cover from the palette and position it vertically at the back of the palette, resting against the center column of the tripod. Hook one end of the bungee cord into the hole on the left corner of the cover, stretch the cord behind the cover and around the back of the tripod center column, then insert the other hook into the slot on the right side of the cover. The cover now acts as a palette shade — essential for accurate color comparison outdoors.

Step 6 — Attach the Panel Holder to the Tripod
Locate the quick release plate already screwed onto the aluminum channel of the Panel Holder. Do not unscrew or remove this plate. At the top of the tripod, find the pan head. Pull down the grey lever on the left side of the pan head, insert the quick release plate, then push the lever back up to lock the Panel Holder securely in place.

Step 7 — Adjust the Panel Holder Brackets
Loosen the star knobs on the Panel Holder brackets and rotate them 90 degrees. Adjust the bracket height to fit your panel or canvas. Place your panel in the brackets and tighten the star knobs firmly to ensure a snug, secure fit.

Step 8 — Install the Dust Ledge
Unscrew the star knob from the back of the Dust Ledge. Slide the Dust Ledge screw through the open channel of the Panel Holder below the bottom bracket. Screw the star knob back onto the screw from the back of the panel holder. Tilt the panel holder slightly forward so pastel dust falls freely from the panel into the Dust Ledge. To empty the Dust Ledge, loosen the star knob and tilt the ledge to either side.

Step 9 — Add the Spring Clamp
Attach the 4 spring clamp to a tripod leg above the palette for added stability.

Step 10 — Load Up and Paint!
Load your pastels into the organizer tray and sliding shelves. You're ready to paint!

💡 Pro Tip: The palette cover doubles as a shade when positioned vertically — this is key for accurate pastel color matching in bright outdoor light. The Dust Ledge is exclusive to En Plein Air Pro and keeps your palette tray clean by catching falling pastel dust. Tilt the panel holder slightly forward for best results.
